Calocedrus means Beautiful Cedar. The word decurrens means decurrent (running down), referring to the scale leaves running down the twig. This cedar is from Central and Southern Oregon down to Northern California. It is an evergreen, narrow upright conifer with a moderate growth rate. The bark is reddish-brown, peeling in vertical strips on older bark. Intermediate bark forms rectangular plates. The foliage is bright green flattened scales held vertically with no stomatal markings. Each scale is 4-parted with sharp points. Full sun and good drainage. No irrigation necessary once established.
