Native to southern China, oldhamii is an attractive, non-invasive timber bamboo. It is the most common and widely grown in the United States. This noninvasive clumper makes a great landscape plant that can be trimmed to make nice dense hedges. Many homeowners have discovered that tropical bamboo quickly creates a natural screen, providing garden intimacy even in busy urban neighborhoods. The very thick walled culms grow straight and have short branches with wide leaves. New shoots have an excellent taste, and is widely cultivated in Taiwan for this purpose. The culm wood is used for building construction, and makes attractive furniture. ,br>The height of this giant bamboo varies due to climate and light conditions. Up to 55’ tall. Requires full sun. Minimum temperature 15°F. Does best in Zones 8-9+
