Native to southern China, oldhamii is an attractive, non-invasive timber bamboo. It is the most common and widely grown in the United States. This noninvasive clumper makes a great landscape plant that can be trimmed to make nice dense hedges.

Many homeowners have discovered that tropical bamboo quickly creates a natural screen, providing garden intimacy even in busy urban neighborhoods. The very thick walled culms grow straight and have short branches with wide leaves. New shoots have an excellent taste, and is widely cultivated in Taiwan for this purpose.
