This is a rounded shrub with deep crimson leaves with bronze tinge. The leaves are greenish-red when grown in shade, there is a single spine at each node. The fruit is waxy-like pale yellow to orange to red flowers; red oval berries in summer; persists into winter. Sun to light shade; range of soil types except wet. Grows 2-3' tall and 3-4' wide. Deer resistant. Zones 4-9.
